In Dakar, most people go out to parties at restaurants to ring in the new year. All the restaurants have special menus and entertainment in the evening. So we went out for lunch on New Year's Eve! We ate at Le Recife, a restaurant situated on the western-most point of the African continent. (In the picture, the waiter is standing directly in front of the monument marking the point.) Like most of the world, Senegalese shoot off fireworks on New Year's Eve. The sudden explosion of fireworks all over the city announced the turn of the year. While we didn't go outside for the midnight display, we watched fireworks earlier in the evening.
